Flag Football is in the future??????

I agree with some of the rules that protect quarterbacks...but this is just getting ridiculous...how long before we strap a velcro belt onto these guys...that whole Tuck incident is a joke.

Fine or not, the penalty should not have been called on Tuck.
Rob B...Cheap shots are one thing. The Tuck situation was clean. He didn't even have his arms wrapped around him after he realized that the QB had thrown the ball.

Yes, I can hear a ref saying it now:
"The quarterback was touched by #55 of the defense. The penalty will be assessed 15 yards from the previous line of scrimmage and automatic 1st down."
then, on the next play:
"The receiver was tackled too roughly by #21 of the defense. 15 yards will be added to the end of the play."

Seriously though, I think I can understand why the NFL is doing this even though I don't agree with it at all. Heavily fining defensive players will have two main effects on the NFL game that the NFL executives want to see:

1) Defensive players will get more hesitant and less willing to play hard and make plays, turning games into the high-scoring offensive track meet-style games that most casual football fans like to see. This might attract more casual fans to the sport, increasing revenues.

2) I have to believe that the NFL loses a substantial amount of money when a star like Tom Brady goes out for the season. The suits don't want guys like Brady to be injured. Ever. Even if he was injured on a clean play. Therefore, they are trying to keep all their offensive stars healthier by punishing defensive players even if they breathe on them too hard.
